Mayo GAA’s Cillian O’Connor launches new specialist finance and accounting recruitment firm11 Nov 2019
Mayo GAA player, Cillian O’Connor, has teamed up with David Butler and Pat Hughes to launch a specialist finance and accounting recruitment firm called Spot Recruitment.
Spot Recruitment will focus on recruiting finance professionals for industry (Tech, FMCG and Manufacturing) as well as financial services firms including banks, insurance companies, accountancy firms, investment firms, aircraft leasing companies and corporate finance advisors. The firm has already secured mandates at Director and recently qualified level in the areas of Corporate Finance, Financial Consulting and Accounting in industry.
Each of the three co-founders have strong sporting connections. Cillian O’Connor has played intercounty football for Mayo for 9 years. A former All-Star, O’Connor has played in 4 All Ireland finals and has won 5 Connacht Championships and is the leading scorer in championship history. Pat Hughes plays intercounty football for Sligo and is a Player Representative with the Gaelic Players Association while David Butler plays rugby for Old Belvedere in Division 1 (B) of the AIL.
O’Connor who will head Business Development in the new company said that he had explored a number of different business opportunities over the last number of years; “the worlds of senor level sport and business are closely intertwined and I believe that the experiences I have been through and the connections I have made through sports can be of real help to me in business. I’m lucky to be able to take this step with David and Pat who are close friends as well as business partners and we are really looking forward to building out the business.”
On choosing to start in business in the recruitment sector, Cillian said it was a natural choice: “David has worked directly in recruitment and our personal, sporting, work and social networks are deeply rooted in people who are either hiring for or applying to positions in financial services so it was a natural step.”
